2025 SUMMER PROGRAMS TRANSPORTATION DETAILS
We will have two buses that will provide transportation for students that participate in Cornell Summer Programs. The buses will operate like public transportation and will have a designated route for morning pick up.
If your child’s regular stop is not listed, they should use the next closest stop location. It is suggested that you teach your child how to get home from alternate stop locations, so they are prepared when they are dropped off.
Please make sure your child knows which bus they ride (Bus A or Bus B) along with their stop location. Your child should remind the driver of their stop location when they board the bus after the program ends for the day.
In the morning, students should be at their stop location at least 10 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time. Student participation in Summer Programs is optional and depending on the number of students at the stop locations, the bus can run ahead of schedule.
Summer Programs will dismiss at 11:45 AM. If you plan to meet the bus to pick up your child, we suggest being at the stop at 11:45 AM. Drop off will go quickly based on the daily student participation.
If you need to find the exact location of the bus, please call our transportation provider (Student Transportation of America) directly at 412-269-9970. They can radio the driver to find out their location.
Special Transportation from the regular school year does not carry over to Summer Programs
Special Transportation requests only need to be made if your child needs to ride a different bus to school, for drop off or both to school and drop off. The request must be daily for the entire time of the program, we cannot do partial transportation changes for various days.
Should your child require special transportation arrangements while attending Cornell Summer Day Camp (PRIDE), please contact Mrs. Crystal Smith at 412-264-5010 Ext. 1110 or via email at [email protected].
If your child will be attending the Special Education – Extended School Year program and require Special Transportation, please contact Mrs. Heidi Anderson at 412-264-5010 Ext. 1111 or via email at [email protected].
Please remember someone must be at the bus stop to meet your child at the end of the day. If no one is at the bus stop, the student will be taken back to the elementary school where the parent will have to pick up their child.
DELAYED BUSES (Morning and Afternoon)
On occasion, a bus might be late picking up or dropping off students due to railroad traffic, road construction, weather conditions or a substitute driver.
MORNING DELAYS
In the mornings, there is no set time limit that a student should wait for a bus. However, we suggest students wait at their bus stop a minimum of 10–15 minutes past the scheduled pick up time before returning home.
AFTERNOON DELAYS
This occurs primarily with the elementary runs. If there is a delay with a JSHS run or other route that will cause a ripple effect to the departure time of the elementary buses.
Please know that drivers strive to be consistent with pick up and drop off times but sometimes this is not possible.
In the event a bus does not arrive as scheduled, please contact Student Transportation of America (STA) at 412-269-9970 to check on the location of your child’s bus. We ask that you allow 15 minutes before calling.
The district works closely with the bus company to ensure they are communicating if a bus is going to be late. As a courtesy, if the district is notified in advance, an electronic notification (robocall) will be issued if a bus is anticipated to be late by 15 minutes or more.
Student Transportation of America (STA) is currently hiring for bus and van drivers, as well as monitors to ride with the students. If you or anyone you know may be interested in working for STA, please call Lynn Fabian at 412-269-9970.
If you or anyone you know are interested in becoming a school bus driver, van driver, or bus monitor, please call Student Transportation of America (STA) at 412-269-9970 and ask to speak with Lynn Fabian.
STA will provide training. This is a great employment opportunity for parents with school-aged children to have the same work schedule as your child’s school schedule.
